Introducing sub-seasonal spatial and temporal resolution to winter climate prediction

چکیده
[1] The dominant Northern Hemisphere winter mode of variability is characterized by a same-signed sea level pressure anomaly at high latitudes with an opposite-signed anomaly stretching across mid-latitudes. The surface temperature pattern associated with this mode is a samesigned temperature anomaly across the major continents and an opposite-signed anomaly across the major oceans. We demonstrate that this temperature pattern is mostly an artifact of multi-year averaging, which results in the super positioning of two distinctive patterns. Separation of the two patterns allows for more accurate seasonal predictions and introduces a spatial and temporal resolution in forecasts previously not possible.

Statistical analyzes and anomalies of precipitation in cold period in order to understand the effect of climate change on different regions of Iran (1951-2010)
Investigating of rainfall behavior in the spatial-temporal dimension and determining the tolerance thresholds of different geographical areas with respect to vegetation, animal life and human activities, is essential for any decision in the environment. Therefore, precipitation data of 27 stations were received from the Meteorological Organization during the 60-year period and After the data we...

Monthly cross shore beach profiles measured at the Ogata Wave Observation pier located in Joetsu-Ogata Coast, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, was analyzed to investigate multi-scale morphodynamic beach behavior. The Ogata beach, facing the Sea of Japan, is subjected to high energy wave conditions that has a strong winter/summer seasonal signature. The measured beach profiles at the beach show very s...
متن کاملModeling of spatio-temporal of albedo over Iran
The aim of this study is modeling spatiotemporal variations of albedo. This study was conducted using simultaneous effects of several components, such as wetness of surface layer of soil, cloudiness, topography and vegetation density (NDVI), using MEERA2 model with a resolution of 50 in 50 km during 2000-2010 in Iran. The results of spatial analysis of albedo values in Iran showed that the high...
متن کاملAnalysis of inter-decade changes in trends and spatial patterns of annual and seasonal precipitation, case study: West of Iran
The present research about the spatial changes of precipitation is mainly focused on western areas of Iran. Precipitation data for three seasons of fall, winter, and spring have been obtained from Esafzari Database, with 15*15 km spatial resolution in the form of a Lambert Cone Image System for the period from 1986 to 2015. To examine the prevailing pattern of precipitation in west of Iran, we ...
متن کاملSeasonal Demand Dynamics of Residential Water End-Uses
Water demand prediction by end-use at an appropriate spatial and temporal resolution is essential for planning water supply systems that will supply water from a diversified set of sources on a fit-for-purpose basis. Understanding seasonal, daily and sub-daily water demand including peak demand by end-uses is an essential planning requirement to implement a fit-for-purpose water supply strategy...
